OUTDOOR SPACES

Our latest Interior Designer Chat on twitter (@intdesignerchat), which was centered on designing functional outdoor spaces triggered my thought about you and your outdoor space. With Spring on our doorstep and Summer at its heels, are you ready for your backyard parties, BBQs or just a short escape from your hectic world. I thought I’d share a few favorites I spotted here and there.

Large outdoor spaces are quite popular wherein it houses all the essentials for outdoor living and entertaining: television, grilling station and plenty of seating. These types of spaces are ordered by families who frequently hosts a large gathering and loves to entertain.

This one is quite unique in that it’s serene and zen-like. The warmth that embodies this space is inviting. Shaded by lots of greenery and illuminated by soft glowing light, this is the perfect intimate dinner setting.

This is a trend-setting space. More and more families are opting for integrated indoor/outdoor spaces where they can easily and quickly transition from the kitchen to the outdoor dining area. A nanawall is the perfect solution wherein two rooms become one. While this is becoming popular here in Florida, retractable screens are a must to keep the friendly critters away.

Access to the bar area while in the pool is a nifty idea for those who want a quick drink and stay cool while doing so. The outdoor kitchen is stocked with the necessary equipment, is easily accessible and keeps everybody happy.

Water features are always nice to suffocate the sound of everyday city life and makes for a great escape. If you live in the city and have the luxury of having a rooftop space, this is a nice set up. Besides, if nothing else, the sound of water is very soothing for the soul. Grab a glass of wine and relax.

Even for a patio, this looks very formal and inviting. Just because you’re having dinner outside doesn’t mean that it should not be delightful. Take the time to spruce up your space with textures, colors, patterns, inviting scents and sound.

Let’s start a disucssion…are you ready to start designing your outdoor space but have no idea how, where or when to begin. But before you embark on such a project, you must first answer the ultimate question: How do you intend to use your outdoor space?

Talk to me, which one of these outdoor spaces appeals to you the most and why?

Cheers,

Marilyn

  1. Love the integrated spaces. I didn’t know about the necessity of retractable screens for your area…that is something that we thankfully don’t need here in California although we can get nibbled on occasionally. I would love to have any of those spaces, preferably overlooking the ocean. We can dream, right?

  2. Just wanted to stop in and comment on your work. It’s gorgeous! We build and design outdoor kitchens in the South Florida area. We have been on HGTV and have designed over 650 projects to date. Feel free to check out some of my work. Love to hear what you think.
